So, I downloaded a trial version of Capture NX2 and it does work nicely for this. There is still a cyan fringe but much better. http://www.flickr.com/photos/edgehill/4383714868/sizes/o/ -that's just working off the jpeg, I never saved NEFs, out of spite for Nikon's software <g>. > I tried to match the sharpening: > http://www.flickr.com/photos/edgehill/4381955319/sizes/o/ Note how the top LR examples alias/moire the purple into alternating bands of red & blue where NX gives a smooth edge. NX does leave red in the fringing, it only takes out the blues. It doesn't touch the yellow green axial fringing in the background but that's less objectionable to start with. > top is from lightroom, bottom with Capture NX2, > left is f/8, right is f/2.8 > original files here: > http://www.edgehill.net/1/temp//_0039097.NEF > http://www.edgehill.net/1/temp//_0039096.NEF > >> f/8 NEF is more than good enough. f/2.8 needed 60% axial CA correction to >> remove magenta from wires on RHS. Nicely put. Now I've learnt NX2 it does what I want and with minimal effort, but if they start building camera firmware to the same standard as their external software I shall give up photography and learn to draw with crayons.
