Hi,

Could anyone possibly tell me which of these would be the best option.
This is my first venture into DSLR territory, and I will mostly be
taking nature and portrait shots. Price range approx 450 tops.

Any advise much appreciated.....................................
Thanks in advance

Either of these cameras will do a good job. Your decision should be
based on which one feels best in your hands, so try them both.

At that price, all the DSLRs are very similar, regardless of brand, so
also consider the Sony Alpha DSLRs and the Olympus E-620.

They are both good cameras. The thing to remember is that when you buy
into a brand, you tend to be tied to that brand for a long time so take
a look at any future costs and specifically the cost and quality of any
additional lenses you may need.

And don't forget the Pentax K200D or K-m.

I'll echo the comments about trying them out. Make sure the grip feels
comfortable, the controls are easy to reach, the menus seem logical, and
the viewfinder displays are clear.

Seconded with that. When I first wanted a DSLR a couple of years ago, I
wanted the Canon EOS (whatever model it was then), but just couldn't
hold the thing. I ended up with the Oly E-500, as it was the most comfy
to hold.
