I'll second all of that - camera, lens, and supplier :-)

If you want a new G1, buy it while you still can. There is a cashback
deal from Panasonic UK to help clear the last remaining unsold stocks,
which should be gone in a few days. The G1 lacks the HD video
capability of the replacement G2 model but has the Japanese 14-45mm
lens which is considered a better optic than the G2's Chinese 14-42mm.

Dealers offering good prices on the G1 include Cameraworld of
Chelmsford (who have a branch in central London) and SRS Microsystems
of Watford. I have bought from both dealers more than once and they
have excellent after-sales service.

I was looking for something similar last Christmas, narrowed it down to
3 or 4 makes, the Nikon (P100?) was discounted very quickly, cannot
recall why, there was a similar spec Canon, but I felt it was a little
over-priced, which narrowed it down to a Panasonic similar to the above,
(it may be the same, cannot recall the model), and the Fuji S2000.
Held side by side, the Fuji felt far better in the hand, and was
definitely smaller.
It gives excellent pics, so much so that my SLR is rarely used now.
Alan.

Thanks, people, it looks like the G11 is the preferred option.

I've recently bought a Canon G11 and I'm very pleased with it. The
presence of a viewfinder (albeit small and not giving 100% coverage) was
one of the reasons for this choice. Somebody asked me to take a picture
of him and his girlfriend with their small camera recently on a sunny
day and I just couldn't see a damn thing on the screen. I just hope it
was OK.
