From: R D S on 4 Aug 2010 10:14 Hi, In my quest for the ever elusive white background, I've just bought a light tent. It's an 80cm cube with a slit on the front to poke the lens through. I have a standard 500 watt halogen floodlight pointing at it and i'm getting reasonably nice pics, naturally they would be better if I had better bulbs. Can I get a bulb for this lamp? (This sort of thing http:// www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=222896&C=Froogle&U=222896&T=Module) What am I looking for in terms of colour? 5400k? If I need new lamps then what would I be better off buying, do I need some with a larger reflective surface? What wattage? Frankly any help or input would be appreciated.

Just don't mix the light sources. What bulbs would be better ? Two lamps would give better balance one on each side but the point of a tent is to defuse the light and give an even balance. Unless your moving on to bigger objects or people I expect your ok as you are.

I've got the EV at +1, pics are coming out a bit pinky brown in the background, I suspect I need to adjust the white balance towards blue? I can do this on the camera but I can't see how to do it in the software.

Like wise Is the camera using automatic colour balance. Your lamps will be around 3800K

Assuming you are using a SLR, put one on one side on a cable and the other on a slave on the other side. Works a treat. If you are using it for security pics - jewellery etc - consider a ring flash or similar. They work ace with light tents. -- Woody harrogate three at ntlworld dot com
