Ok I apologise I was a bit hung over from last night. The battery I had
inserted was a new one AFTER the HELP message appeared but as I said the
camera still displays the flashing HELP in the LCD display window upon
insertion and switching it on. I put the old one back in and it still did
the same. So it appears not to be a battery problem.

Looking at the phraseology my guess is the poster is British. The
established rules and attitudes on the American side haven't made it over
here so the British side is dominated by kneejerk opinionated wankers.
There's a power vacuum filled, mostly, by an obnoxious press and right wing
attack blogs. It's a bit tiresome.

....and Joel continues tilting at lingustic windmills having
misunderstood Tony's post, which was not aimed at Joel, but a remark on
the OP, Redman's misunderstanding of Joel's "My hovercraft is filled
with eels," attempt to provide assistance.

Reading Joel's posts is like watching one of those old pinball
machines we played as youngsters, and seeing Joel - as the ball -
bouncing off windmill bumper after windmill bumper.
