From: Paul Furman on 10 Mar 2010 16:29 Stupid idea to leave it in the glove box. Hadn't got a break-in for 5 years since moving to this neighborhood, so thought I was safe. I probably left the door unlocked. Unfortunately I didn't write down the serial number. Probably no hope of recovery but what the heck, thought I'd mention it here in case someone runs across it for sale. The camera has a faulty spring on the aperture relay tab, there's some blue tape on the bottom near tripod mount to hold it to the lens. Black lens, not silver. Does not have the NC filter and has a small pointy scratch to the metal somewhere near the base. It had black gaffer's tape over the lens cap name. Lost in San Francisco. http://www.flickr.com/photos/edgehill/3304415292/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/edgehill/3710558280/ http://edgehill.net/1/Misc/photography/cameras/lenses/01-45mm2.8.jpg It was an import from B&H or Adorama from around 2006 for about $350 I think, which is what one sold for recently on ebay, though someone else is *asking* $700 for one at the moment <g>. I guess I now have an excuse to get a Voigtlander 40mm f/2 Aspherical SL II Ultron :-)

If your deductible is less than the replacement value, that route might still be worthwhile. I had coverage for the D300 + extras stolen from a car in South Africa. Allstate looked at the situation as items normally kept in the insured property stolen while away from the property. I was fortunate and was ultimately not much out of pocket, and was able to update to a D300s. B&H should be able to provide purchase information, including the serial #. You might also want to check through any e-mail archive you have to see what you have there. Again the serial # is probably included in one of those e-mails. As far as recovery goes you are probably correct, however you should still make a police report as your insurance company will probably want a copy of that report. -- Regards, Savageduck

Buy the 50mm f1.8 E series (a decent lens) and you'd have roughly the same thing for about $60.00.

This was my second EM, both cheap, both slightly broken, the first I gave to a kid & his dad lost it? I'm pissed about that one with the 50/1.8 E, that was almost a pancake. I think It's a curse <g>. I don't have comprehensive on the 24 year old car, I spend the savings on lenses <g> and yes people could have seen me loading tripods & stuff. I'm used to having the car broken into, it was even stolen twice. I never leave anything really substantial in the car. I won't bother reporting it. It is likely I left the door unlocked that day. Thanks for everyone's condolences. How about that 40/2 Ultron though? mmmm... |
