It's been so long since I dusted off any of my languishing film gear,
I'm almost afraid to look in the big fridge at the (very few) decent
photo stores around here (brisbane, aust)..

Any comments, additions, corrections to the lazily assembled list of
(non-supermarket) color films below (b&w fans feel free to add those
in):

I gather there's:

Velvia 50 - better than the old one?
Velvia 100 - how does grain/colour/dr compare?
Provia 100 (400?) - does it still have those blue/purple shadows?
Astia 100 - niiice film - I hope it still is

Ekta E100 (G, GX, VS) - ??? haven't tried the new ekta's, used to
prefer Astia/Velvia over the old E-mulsions
Ekta E200

Portra 160 (NC/VC?) - didn't like VC (bad experience when shooting
overcast outdoors)
Portra 400 (NC/VC?)
Ultra (100/400?)

Fuji Reala 100 - my favorite print film now that Konica Impressa is
gone (sob)
Fuji Pro 160C, 160S - haven't used these (NPH/NPS replacements?)
Fuji Pro 800Z - didn't know this was still around..
Fuji Press 400, 800, 1600 - ditto..

... others?

RIP - very sadly missed..
Kodachrome 25 (please don't talk about it or I'll cry.)
Konica Impressa 50 (The K25 of negatives)
....
I thought all the Agfa line was dead, but I see their Vista films are
still up on the web - quite liked those, but never used their pro
range much.. Was it just the Pro line that died, or have I just got
my wires crossed?

My experience 100F is not as saturated and doesn't compare to 50

I hope so to as I just got 5 rolls ask me in 3 weeks.

UC400 is OK the blues saturate faster than the other colors - FYI

200 too blue in sunlight, 1600 nothing to write home about.

B&W and cousins

Of XP2 and BW400CN I prefer XP2 better contrast

PanF+ I didn't like, too slow for me.
FP4
HP5+ generally pleasent to work with
Delta 3200 Closer to my speed :-)

Tmax 400 and 3200

Acros - Excelent resolution, but I can't get it to scan for anything,
Prints well :-)

The best person to ask about B&W film is Ken. I know Agfa was always
my choice for black and white. For something completely different,
try Rollei Infrared. It's awesome. That's if you're into IR.
Personally, I love it.

The new Velvia 50 isn't out yet. Expect it anytime soon.

>Velvia 100 - how does grain/colour/dr compare?

Only slightly grainier than Velvia 50, but a lot less saturated.

Think of it as a halfway house between original Velvia and Provia. In
other words, neither one thing nor the other.

>Provia 100 (400?) - does it still have those blue/purple shadows?

Now Provia 100F and 400F, the latter about to be replaced by 400X.
Provia 100X will probably be next. 100F is my joint favourite slide
film - with Kodachrome 64.

>Astia 100 - niiice film - I hope it still is

Still is. I think it is Astia 100F now, with finer grain, but I don't
have any in the fridge/freezer, so cannot check.

>Ekta E100 (G, GX, VS) - ??? haven't tried the new ekta's, used to

Haven't tried them either.

There's a new Portra with a 'new technology' emulsion for which Kodak
have high hopes. I haven't managed to get any yet.

>Fuji Pro 160C, 160S - haven't used these (NPH/NPS replacements?)

An evolution of NPS. 160C has extra saturation.

>Fuji Pro 800Z - didn't know this was still around..
>Fuji Press 400, 800, 1600 - ditto..

Haven't used any of these for a few years now. I use Fuji Natura 1600
which I import personally from Japan.

>Kodachrome 25 (please don't talk about it or I'll cry.)

Kodak Ektar 25 and Ektar 100. The best colour negative films ever?

There is a lot of unsold Agfa stock. Many of the Agfa chemicals are
back in production. I heard rumours about some B+W film being
produced (and possiby sold under the Rollei brand) but don't know
whether that has actually happened. I use mainly Kodak BW400CN.
