From: Jomar Bueyes on 26 Jul 2010 17:01 Dear Illustrator experts, I am having a problem with Illustrator CS 3 on a Mac (OS 10.5.8). When I select text inside a text box, the text is selected but not highlighted as it used to be. To select text, I place the cursor inside the text box and drag to select what I want. The only clue I have that the text was actually selected is that when I change something (e.g. regular text to italics), the change does take effect. I have not been able to find what setting got messed up to prevent the highlighting of the text. Is there a way to get back to the way it should work? What setting am I missing? Thank you in advance for any help Jomar

I can see the edges of the text box when I select the box. No problem there. The problem is that when I select a portion of the text inside the box (e.g. the last three of 10 letters), my selection is not highlighted. As I mentioned in my original post, the only hint I have that the letters are indeed selected is that changes to the text (such as italics or subscript) do take effect when I apply them and only affect what I selected. Problem is that I sometimes select one more or one fewer letter and have to undo and redo after selecting again. Thank you again for your response, Jomar

When I use the "shift" key to constrain something (e.g. to draw vertical or horizontal lines with the Line Segment Tool), the shift key has no effect. That is, it doesn't constrain anything. Furthermore, the option key (used to copy while dragging) has no effect either. So I renamed the preferences folder back to its original name. Has anybody seen the behavior described above (i.e. the shift and option keys having no effect)? Is there a solution for that problem? I could not find anything in Illustrator preferences. Thanks again, Jomar |
