But that makes it no less preposterous. This incident has been a godsend to
the U.S. Congress, allowing pompous fatheads like Joe Lieberman to bellow at
the Obama administration for not overreacting even more than they are.

Yes, but remember that it's not always easy to tell which kooks and
propagandists are doing the re-writing. You may recall that the Bush-Cheney
junta regularly re-wrote Wikipedia entries that they considered critical of
them. They had apparently been doing it for quite some time before they were
exposed (and may, for all we know, have not stopped doing it even then).
